Sebastian and Marijke will teach classes at this festival in the so-called 'close embrace' style. The way it is danced in many of the milongas in Buenos Aires. 'Tango is cool! It is a ritual encounter, a unique form of sharing. It is elegant, sometimes minimal, relaxed and soft, yet strong in awareness and meaning. It is an exchange of energies initiated by the music. We want to teach our students to relax and communicate, to be respectful and listen to each other, to increase sensitivity and achieve ease in dancing complex figures. Our goal is to give our students several tools to enhance the pleasure they find in the dance, the music, the connection.'
Sebastian was born in Buenos Aires as son of Uruguayos and came to Amsterdam at a young age.
He has been dancing and teaching close embrace style for several years, focusing mainly on achieving a relaxed posture to improvise with ease. As a result of this, one of the aspects of his dance that he's well known for, is his sparkling milonga traspie.
Marijke teaches tango for over 10 years, is visual artist, and organizer of the Tangomagia festival in Amsterdam. Director and writer of several dance productions in which she uses tango in an interdisciplinary manner to create a new theatrical language combined with the visuals of new media. The milongas and dancers in Buenos Aires, as well as the Argentine culture have always been an important inspiration for her, and she considers Buenos Aires as her second home town. Relaxation and open-mindedness, and the follower's interpretation of the music are important elements of her teaching, as are sensitivity and quality of movement, both for the leader and the follower.
